The Family Friends Family Support Program is an intergenerational program that reaches out to families raising children with with a special needs or developmental disabilities.
Social workers and older adult volunteers provide support to families in their homes and in the community.
Volunteers are older adult volunteers from the neighborhoods in which families live. Senior volunteers are screened, trained, and matched with compatible families. Volunteers have experience, wisdom and time to share with children and families who may be feeling overwhelmed and isolated.
The goal of the Family Friends Family Support Program is to decrease caregiver stress and isolation, promote positive youth development, and increase the ability of families to access services in the community such as in-home support, respite trips for children and their families, special events for families, and social work services.
