"NEW SOUTH WALES - HOME MODIFICATION AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES" PROGRAM
Program Description
The “New South Wales - Home Modification And Maintenance Services” Program provides both minor home repairs and major home improvements or modifications which have been prescribed by an Occupational Therapist.
Some home improvement agency services are free or funded to and other services are not. Elderly are asked to pay for the cost of materials at a reduced price when possible, plus a subsidized hourly rate. Financial assistance is available and can be negotiated with the New South Wales - Home Modification And Maintenance Services” Program.
Examples of minor home modifications include:
The supply and installation of lever taps, grabrails, handrails and hand held showers, access modifications including the widening of doorways and building wheelchair ramps, access ramps, step wedges, easy steps and pathways.
Examples of major home improvement work include: bathroom, kitchen and safety modifications
Other maintenance work includes making the homes of elderly more energy efficient by providing work such as adjusting temperatures on hot water systems.
Home safety for the elderly includes the installation of smoke alarms, safety adjustments, fall prevention, securing cords, rugs, and adjustments to furniture and fittings, adjusting the height of tables, chairs and beds.
The “New South Wales - Home Modification And Maintenance Services” Program is funded by the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) under the Home and Community Care Program (HACC).
