Program Description
Through the ZOOM Into Action kids can can help seniors.
Kids engage with older adults by:
Starting a conversation with an elderly person in the grocery store, mall, park or other public place.
Visiting nursing homes and participating in games and activities, bringing their pets to senior centers, and delivering greeting cards or flowers to residents of nursing homes.
The ZOOM Into Action You Can Help Seniors Program has a number of fun and creative activities for children to engage with seniors and to increase their awareness of seniors.
Kids can bring a memory box to a visit to help start up a conversation with an older adult or arrive prepared with prompts which may help a senior to open up and tell them more about themselves and their life.
The website also details the Adopt a Grandfriend project for kids, which builds a more involved relationship between a child and older adults and promotes senior sensitivity.
