WHATProvides free pet food, discounted pet food and adoption assistance to help the elderly care for pets.

WHYTo provide low income seniors or seniors on fixed incomes who either own a pet or would like to have a pet with assistance.

Program Description

"Our Companion Animal Program helps low-income seniors keep their furry friends. The program offers various PET CARE NEEDS including delivery of free or discounted pet food and supplies, veterinary and grooming services, transportation, pet sitting, disaster planning, adoption, and referrals."

Animal companionship can help alleviate health problems, isolation and loneliness among the elderly.

In addition to providing seniors with free or discounted food for their pets and pet adoption assistance Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles also provides affordable senior housing as an alternative to institutional if possible. In addition VOALA offers senior veterans housing referrals, benefits advocacy, three meals a day, physical and mental health evaluations, transportation, and recreational activities through the VS-65 Senior Veterans program.

Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles aim to help older adults and all people realize their full potential through relevant programs and services, to encourage positive development, promote self-sufficiency, and foster independence.
