Seniors fill out a pet adoption application and receive a free welcome kit which includes a dog harness, collar, leash, dog food bowl, dog bed and a start-up supply of pet food and medication.
The Seniors for Seniors Program can also provides older adults with home modifications such as a dog gate and stairs.
Muttville Senior Dog Rescue lists the following as benefits for seniors who adopt pets:
- Increased physical activity.
- Increased socialization and engagement.
- Lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
- Fewer trips to the doctor and therefore, decreased medical costs.
- Less depression and a happier state of being.
- Greater sense of physical security.
- Love, affection and companionship.
Seniors who are unable or do not wish to adopt a pet can visit the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue facility in-person to hold and play with senior dogs through the Cuddle Club. The Cuddle Club is also available for organizations wishing to hold their own senior dog cuddle event.
