Program Description
Seniors or caregivers interested in receiving fans from the "Cooling Assistance" Program are able to submit applications before the summer months begin. In order to be eligible seniors must meet monthly income guidelines.
The program aims to helps eligible low-income households with at least one person considered vulnerable to heat such as a young child , a disabled individual, or an elderly individual.
The "Cooling Assistance" Program provides air conditioners to elderly with medical conditions requiring cooling assistance.
Volunteers assist the program by delivering fans to the homes of senior recipients. To date the program has donated and distributed over 22,000 fans.
It is generally recommended that during hot weather, elderly stay in a cool place indoors such as a public shopping mall or library, drink additional fluids, wear lightweight clothing, to prevent heat exhaustion. Exercise and activity should be limited outdoors and take place during the early morning or evening.
