Three people in leadership roles from hospitals such as, the Head of Nursing, or Director of Nursing, the Medical Director, and the Administrator are to attend the training. Other staff recommended include: direct care staff, rehabilitation, social work, and pharmacy.
Participants engage the 6 week program delivered via a web based platform and facilitated by the NICHE team. Discussions, readings and assignments take place in order to guide the planning of NICHE implementation at the designated hospital.
At the end of the training program an action plan is developed and reviewed with a NICHE expert in order to become a NICHE-designated facility.
The following NICHE tools are available at no cost to healthcare professionals and others interested in pursuing NICHE designation:
-Certification Tool Kit provides guidance for the promotion of gerontological certification in a healthcare system and strategies for achieving certification for your nurses.
-Introduction to Gerontology (set of four educational modules) that provides a foundation for developing geriatric-sensitive care across all hospital departments.
