"GERIATRIC NURSING EDUCATION PROJECT" PROGRAM
John A. Hartford Foundation.
"Under the Model, education programs currently preparing adult or gerontology NPs and CNSs must expand their curriculum to prepare graduates to provide comprehensive care to the entire adult population, which includes the young adult through the older adult and frail elderly. The transition to the new model of education across the adult life span will require the redesign, and in some instances, combination of adult and gerontology programs to provide the student learner with the knowledge and skills to care for adults through the entire age span.
Geriatric nursing care training programs include:
-A Series Of Web-Based Interactive Geriatric Nursing Case Studies
-Photographs Depicting Geriatric Care to Nursing Schools: Nursing program web sites display few examples of geriatric care therefore a catalog of free geriatric nursing photos is available for nursing schools
-Caring for an Aging America: A Guide for Nursing Faculty A "how-to" guide for nursing faculty to increase gerontology content in their curriculum
-Explore A Day In The Life Of An Academic Geriatric Nurse: "Through interviews and beautiful photo portraits, the 2010 Annual Report of the John A. Hartford Foundation profiles 18 inspiring nursing leaders. Get to know them as they improve nursing home care, conduct research on elder abuse, hoarding, and dementia, promote wellness, enhance community services, and prepare the next generation of geriatric nurses to meet the unique needs of older Americans."
