"AGE AND OPPORTUNITY CREATIVE EXCHANGES" PROGRAM
Age & Opportunity.
Dublin, Ireland.
Program Description
"Communication between staff and residents engaged in a creative process is different. It shifts from caring to sharing and maybe sharing eventually leads to a need for less caring. There is communication at a different level. It is two way."

The "Age And Opportunity Creative Exchanges" Program provides senior art training to care staff working in long term care settings. Nursing home activities directors, and staff can regularly provide art classes for seniors as a great alternative to typical, non-stimulating nursing home activities.
Senior art training includes classes for seniors in theater, drama, visual arts and dance.
Senior art training has been tailor-made for staff working with elderly in care settings and encourages staff to implement art as a regular part of seniors daily activities.
Art programs have the power to shift the old model in nursing homes, and long-term care facilities of providing basic care tasks of feeding and bathing the elderly.
Introducing art in all forms to seniors and staff focuses more on person-centered care and promotes culture change in nursing homes from the old model of "one size fits all."
