"MEDSTAR WASHINGTON HOSPITAL CENTER HOUSE CALL" PROGRAM
Washington, D.C. USA.
Program Description
"These are the people who have trouble getting to the doctor's office.
So rather than wait for a disaster to happen, we want to bring care to them."
- Dr. Eric De Jonge
Professionals with portable medical equipment provide elderly with in-home medical care assistance at their place of residence and aim to provide the same health care as they would at a in-home as in a medical clinic.
The idea behind the "MedStar Washington Hospital Center House Call" Program is also preventative in the sense that if a bad health situation is not taken care of it may lead to an emergency or costly hospitalization for a senior later.
The program team coordinates to make sure that doctors, nurses, caregivers and social workers are all the same page with each elderly patient seen during an in-home visit.
Proponents of the "Medical House Call Program believe that it is key in helping to reduce health care costs and that the model, if implemented on a larger scale, could help reform health care in the United States.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a not-for-profit, acute care teaching and research hospital. It is the largest private hospital in the Washington and among the largest hospitals in the United States.
