Program Description
The "Handi Dogs Service & Assistance Dogs" Program holds training sessions for 10 weeks in order for seniors and others with disabilities to achieve certification.
"Handi Dogs" can assist by providing service dogs for seniors that can:
- Opening doors, cupboards, refrigerators, dryers, etc.
- Providing hearing cues
- Retrieving cordless phones
- Activating adaptive switches
- Aiding in dressing
- Carrying items
- Picking up dropped items
- Pulling a wheelchair
- Assisting clients up from a fall
- Help in climbing stairs
- Providing balance for walking
"Handi-Dogs" also helps disabled Veterans train their own Service Dog for both physical and psychological support.
