“SENIOR CONNECTIONS HOME DELIVERY MEALS FOR SENIORS” PROGRAM

Program Description

Home Delivery Meals For Seniors: Senior Connections staff and volunteers deliver approximately 500,000 senior meals to homebound elderly a year. Senior meal options include hot meals or frozen meals, and are standard, low-salt, diabetic, soft or vegetarian. Subsidized senior meals may be available, depending on county, income, and age.
 
A Congregate Family Style Meal Program for seniors at nursing home facilities, assisted living, senior housing, senior daycare and other institutions is also available. The idea behind the “Congregate Family Style Meal” Program is to allow the staff at senior facilities to serve senior meals while being able to focus on other key responsibilities.

A unique part of Senior Connections organization is the on-site Connections Cafe which not only serves elderly meals but all the proceeds go to funding Senior Connection’s Meals on Wheels program.

Seniors with arthritis may have trouble with kitchen tasks and grocery shopping which can lead to seniors not eating properly and to elderly malnutrition. Health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease can also cause senior malnutrition.Senior Connections offers the service of nutrition counselors who can help fight senior malnutrition by getting seniors to set goals, creating an individualized meal plan, along with nutrition counseling and training.
