HAZELDEN BETTY FORD FOUNDATION ADDICTION TREATMENT FOR OLDER ADULTS
“…because of the way they metabolize the medication, metabolize the alcohol all of a sudden they are over into a category that they’ve never lived in before…so what we find is that same drink that someone’s had their whole life - no problems all of a sudden their metabolism isn’t able to keep up so that one drink is like having two maybe three drinks…then you add the fact that most older adults start taking pills, whether it’s for pain, whether it’s for sleep, whether it’s for other things.”
-Brenda Iliff Executive Director Hazelden Naples source: video ‘Expert, age-sensitive addiction treatment for older adults.’
