Program Description
The Grandparents or Older Relatives Raising Children Program is available for older adults who are the primary caregivers for children due to a parent in prison, substance abuse, AIDS, abuse, abandonment, teen pregnancy, death, divorce, unemployment and other reasons.
The Grandparents or Older Relatives Raising Children Program provides grandparents and older adult relatives help with the following support services:
- Counseling.
- Support Groups.
- Child Care.
- Respite.
- School Supplies.
- Electronics.
- Furniture.
- Summer Day Camp.
- After-School Programs.
- Educational Programs.
- Recreational Programs.
- Athletic Programs.
- Toys.
- Medication for Child.
- Help Paying for Rent, Mortgage Payment, Utility Bills.
- Legal Fees.
- Transportation.
Grandparent-headed households can be challenged by issues which can make it difficult to raise and care for grandchildren such as:
-Age
-Isolation
-Poor health
-Fixed income
-Education deficiencies
-Lack of transportation
-Inadequate housing
The Grandparents or Older Relatives Raising Children Program promotes family cohesiveness & community stability by providing grandparents and other relatives raising grandchildren with help, information, education, and supportive services.
