Boulder, Colorado, USA.
Program Description
"I think discrimination definitely still goes on. The culture that has to be set up has to come from the top."
-Video: Project Visibility Trailer
The Project Visibility Training Program is designed for administrators and staff of nursing homes, assisted living residences, home care agencies, senior service providers, and friends and families of LGBT seniors.
The Project Visibility Training Program is comprised of a 21-minute award-winning film in which LGBT seniors speak about their needs and concerns with respect to the aging services network. The film's intention is to educate others on the unique needs of LGBT seniors, counter stereotypes and develop compassionate care for all LGBT persons as they age.
A LGBT sensitivity training manual provides history, background information, terminology, resources, and practical suggestions for providing culturally competent care and service to LGBT seniors.
With the assistance of the Project Visibility Training program, seniors are ultimately able to make more informed decisions as to which businesses and senior service providers are LGBT friendly.
The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging also administers the Rainbow Connections Volunteer Program which matches LGBTQ older adults with LGBTQ volunteers who provide check-in's and social connections for LGBT elders experiencing loneliness and isolation.
