ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS TRAINING KIT PROGRAM

Program Description
“It’s Not Right – Neighbors Friends and Families for Older Adults is designed to educate and engage neighbors, friends and family members of seniors who may be experiencing abuse to recognize the warning signs and become aware of steps to help.”

The Elder Abuse Awareness Training Kit Program includes:
-Elder abuse training videos.
-Public service announcements.(PSA)
-Power Point presentations with comprehensive speaking notes.
-Listing of local resources.
-Online links.
-Other national resources on elder abuse prevention.
-Posters to increase awareness of elder abuse.
Resources such as how to create a safety plan for an elder, elder abuse prevention tips for older adults, caregivers and families, and community response to elder abuse are listed on the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network’s website.
To use the Elder Abuse Awareness Training Kit in your community or organization contact the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network.
Any organization or individual interested in helping fight elder abuse can do so through the Train the Trainer workshop which recruits new trainers to present the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Network’s elder abuse prevention training program.
The training kit has been used by: Adult Protection Services in Austin Texas, Elder Abuse Protection Committee in Sault Ste. Marie, Health and Social Services in the Yukon, Social Services and Seniors in Prince Edward Island, the Seniors Secretariat in Nova Scotia and the Catholic Health Australia conference.
