"SANTA CLARITA SENIOR TRANSIT AMBASSADOR" PROGRAM
Santa Clarita, CA, USA.
Program Description
"What we're looking for are folks who are interested in helping those seniors who are less comfortable using our local transit system become more comfortable with the routes that are available, where bus stops are, travel times,
how to work the fare boxes, etc."
Patrick Bryant - Santa Clarita Transit.
The "Santa Clarita Transit Ambassador" Program started in April 2011 to provide local seniors an opportunity to learn about the benefits and convenience of Santa Clarita’s transit system.
A group of senior ambassadors familiar with the transit system are selected to serve as the bridge between Transit staff and the senior community at-large. Senior volunteer transit ambassadors train other seniors on how to use public transportation. The program has shown an increase in senior ridership.
Volunteer transit ambassadors must be at least 60 years old and go through training to assist other seniors in using the transit system. Seniors learn how to take public transportation by becoming more comfortable with the transit routes that are available, where bus stops are, travel times, how to work the fareboxes, etc.
The "Santa Clarita Transit Ambassador" Program aims to raise awareness amongst area seniors about Santa Clarita Transit's service offerings, and reduce confusion or unfamiliarity about the system, which can often be a barrier to entry for seniors to seek public transportation.
