Members of Dementia Action Alliance, people with dementia and their carers, have signed the National Dementia Declaration which aims to give those with dementia greater choice and control over decisions about their lives and feeling valued as members of the community.
The National Dementia Declaration aims to lead to a plan of action to change the experience of living with dementia in England. The declaration is a call to families, communities and organizations to work to transform quality of life for the millions of people affected by dementia.
The Dementia Action Alliance partners with civic organizations, businesses and professionals to deliver dementia supportive communities.
The alliance believes that public awareness of dementia is high but understanding about it remains poor. A fear of dementia also exists. Those who may have it may be reluctant to seek help and few people understand that it is possible to live well with dementia.
