Program Description
The "Alzheimer's Society Training in Dementia for Caregivers" Program ranges from basic dementia awareness to in-depth dementia programs.Group caregiver training courses are delivered to organizations such as hospitals, nursing homes and many others.
Caregiver training topics include:
-Dementia awareness
-Dementia awareness for staff in acute settings
-Introduction to dementia
-Meeting the complex needs of people with dementia
-A relationship-centred approach to living well with dementia
-Understanding the impact of dementia on behaviour
-Activities in dementia care
-Reminiscence with the person with dementia
-Moving to a dementia care environment - the big step
-Champions in dementia - leadership in dementia care
-Caring for people with dementia in acute hospital settings
The Alzheimer's Society also provides assistance and support services for those with dementia and their caregivers along with "The Alzheimer's Society National Dementia Helpline" Program, online forums and a unique, user friendly "dementia brain tour," that shows how the brain works and how it changes in those with dementia.
