Seniors in rural America can receive free grants or loans for home safety modifications such as:
-Handicap accessible ramps
-Handicap accessible bathrooms (bathroom handrails, grab bars and a handicap shower)
-New heating or air condition systems
-New windows
-Electrical upgrades
-New safer flooring
-New doors and smoke detectors
The USDA Rural Developments “Rural Repair and Rehabilitation Loans and Grants for Seniors” is a very low-income housing repair program that helps seniors make home repairs, improvements, or modifications to their homes. The program is also appropriate for seniors or others with disabilities to make home modifications to such as free wheelchair ramps and other home accessibility features or to make homes safer by eliminating health and safety hazards. Senior home loans and home grants are available.
The “Rural Repair and Rehabilitation Loans and Grants for Seniors” Program provides funding to individuals through grants and loan guarantees. The program is open to homeowners age 62 and over who fall within the low-income guidelines.
In addition to providing housing repairs and home modifications “USDA Rural Development” other financial programs to help rural Americans include: assisting rural communities with public facilities and services such as water and sewer systems, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service.
The “USDA Rural Development” provides loans to businesses, credit unions and community-managed lending pools. The goal is to help rural individuals, communities and businesses obtain the financial and technical assistance needed to address their diverse and unique needs.
