Program Description
"In 2007, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers launched an awards program for Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS) designees to recognize outstanding aging-in-place remodeling projects. This award was expanded to include two award categories, one for a Single Space project (e.g. kitchen, sunroom, bathroom, etc.) or Major Space (e.g. whole house or multi-room) remodel. The 2012 Homes for Life award is sponsored by Whirlpool."

Winners of the "Homes for Life Certified Aging In Place Specialists (CAPS) Design Award" offer specific design solutions that help older adults to continue living in their own home with ease of mobility as they age and face physical challenges.
Aging in place remodeling can include the following home modifications for seniors:
-Installation of home elevators, stair, chair lifts.
-Wheelchair or handicap ramps
-
Installation of bath and shower grab bars, adjusted shower seating, preset water temperatures
-Adjustment of countertop heights
-Multi-functional first-floor master suites
-Enlarged kitchen for wheelchair maneuverability
-Appliances and controls mounted lower for easy access
-Pull-out drawers, cabinets and lowered seating for easier dining and cooking
-Sliding doors
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers is responsible for certifying Aging in Place Specialists to help elderly with home modifications for through the:
