Program Description
The "Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention & Grief Counseling" Program organizes support groups including a traumatic loss group and a survivor of elderly suicide grief group.
Some of the elderly suicide prevention services include:
-24-hour Friendship Line (a crisis and support line for seniors)
-Outreach phone calls (providing seniors emotional support, medication reminders, and well-being checks)
-Home visits for senior therapy and counseling
-Group and individual grief counseling
-Specialized counseling and bereavement support for those who have experienced traumatic loss to suicide or sudden death
-Volunteer opportunities
Keynote speakers, lectures and workshops on elderly suicide intervention for community members or professionals are also available.
The Institute on Aging Center is a 75 million dollar complex which provides not only a large number of programs covering senior health, social services, creative arts, community/ professional education, and research. The aim is to maintain senior health, well-being, independence, and participation in the community. The IOA has also partnered with Bridge Housing to provide affordable senior housing
