"FEED ME FRESH" PROGRAM
My Second Home.
Jewel Program.
Mount Kisco, New York, USA.
Program Description
The "Mount Kisco Child Day Care Center" and "My Second Home," a senior daycare center bring together the generations for planting and maintaining a fresh vegetable garden on site which promotes proper elderly and childhood nutrition.
The garden is used to set an example for both the elderly and children who are prone to malnutrition or not eating well.
Seniors and children engage in maintaining and picking food from the garden, learning about the foods nutritional value, recipies, cooking classes and sharing meals together which gives them a chance for them to see the full circle process of proper nutrition and healthy choices.
Seniors are given an opportunity to be active and help create something beautiful and children are encouraged to take the good habits they learn back home.
My Second Home is an alternative during the day to assisted living or nursing home care in a home-like environment with activities, personal care, nutrition, and transportation services. Family Services of Westchester is responsible for the home. Seniors take on the role of leaders and historians to children in the daycare.
