'THE WORLDWIDE PALLIATIVE CARE ALLIANCE'

WHATThe Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance is an advocacy action network promoting hospice and palliative care development worldwide.
WHYTo promote affordable, quality palliative care so that everyone has access to hospice and palliative care worldwide.
WHEREThe Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance. (WPCA)
International.

Program Description

"…In the poorest countries, where so many people are fighting for their lives, the conditions of death don't get much of a look in. But how we care for the sick and dying is surely a litmus test of our humanity. Just as we fight for equality in life, we should fight for equality in death."

-Bono–U2

"Based on the World Health Organizations' definition, palliative care is not only end of life care but starts from the time a life-threatening illness is diagnosed and should be offered alongside treatment… Every human being is entitled to adequate care and no one should suffer unnecessarily. Unfortunately too many people still suffer because drugs, particularly opioids to relieve their pain are unavailable or because they have no access to adequate care."

  • Inclusion of older adults in end of life care decision-making.
  • Health policy which addresses the unique palliative care needs of older adults.
  • Universal access to hospice and palliative care for older adults living with and dying from life-limiting conditions including non-communicable conditions.
  • Access to pain medications for older adults worldwide.
  • Palliative care training, support, supplies and equipment so that health professionals and carers can provide palliative care for older adults in the community, in inpatient facilities and in their own homes.
  • Advocacy agenda promoting compassionate and dignified end of life care for older adults with life-limiting illnesses realizing they are most vulnerable approaching the end of life.

Voices for Hospices is an event, which holds simultaneous concerts around the world and takes place on World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. The aim is to raise funds and increase awareness for hospice and palliative care around the world.

The organization also publishes Worldwide Hospice and Palliative Care Online, a bi-monthly newsletter circulated worldwide.
