Program Description


“With the collective power of 10,000 members in 37 countries—professionals, organizations and subject matter experts—the International Council on Active Aging has improved the lives of millions of people worldwide. ICAA's actions have also opened a market of vast opportunity for individuals and businesses.”

“The objective of ( Active Aging Week) the annual health-promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment. It also promotes the benefits of healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span.”

The International Council on Active Aging focusing on improving the quality of life and well-being of older adults in the following areas:

  • Spiritual

  • Environmental

Programs and initiatives to help older adults live a better quality of life include:
 
Active Aging Conferences – exhibitors and professionals in retirement and assisted living, hospital and rehabilitation, spa, health and resort.

Training and Webinars – education for staff in various sectors on active aging and wellness.

Research – research library including resources, studies and reports on active aging.

Active Aging Week - campaign to celebrate the capabilities of older adults encouraging them to live active healthy lives. Host organizations such as continuing care retirement communities, active living communities, seniors centers, hospitals, universities, health clubs, parks, recreation centers plan and promote active aging events.

Helpful tools on how to plan active aging events such as
logos, posters, planning timelines and activity ideas are provided on the International Council on Active Aging website. Past events have included, a walk/run marathons, swimming games, fishing, boating, horseback riding, gardening, art exhibits, fitness classes, drum circles, exhibitions, open house and more.   

“In communities, organizations and neighborhoods, local hosts provide fun, (mostly) free activities and events that promote wellness in any or all of life’s dimensions. Offerings primarily target adults ages 50+. Participants are invited to explore these opportunities in a friendly, safe, supportive environment in the hope that they may try new things and perhaps find an activity that engages them which, in turn, might motivate them to adopt (or advance) a lifestyle of healthy, active aging. Participation also reinforces the core message of Active Aging Week: It is possible to live a full, vital and productive life at any age.”
