SENIORS FIGHT BACK
Los Angeles, California, USA.
Program Description
“Seniors Fight Back was founded in April 2021 in Southern California by a passionate group of individuals that wanted to help the AAPI community in the midst of rising anti-Asian hate crimes particularly against the elderly.”-seniorsfightback.com
Seniors Fight Back is a self-defense class which began as a result of a rise in hate crimes against Asians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seniors learn self-defense moves such as situational awareness, yelling and using voice as a weapon, how to use space to escape, and kicking and punching which will help them defend themselves against an attacker.
Self-defense classes are held in partnership with the organization Box for a Change at several locations across the Los Angeles area.
Anyone looking to help stop hate crimes against Asian seniors and also empower AAPI seniors can get involved with the organization.
Other ways to help fight Asian hate crimes include volunteering to provide chaperone services if older adults are not comfortable going out alone and organizing neighborhood patrols.
