"Beacon Hill Village, a member-driven organization for Boston residents 50 and over, provides programs and services so members can lead vibrant, active and healthy lives, while living in their own homes and neighborhoods."

"Twelve years ago, a handful of older residents living in a tony section in Boston gathered to figure out a way they could 'age in place in the neighborhood they so dearly loved. After months of meetings and fundraising, they launched the Beacon Hill Village, a nonprofit membership organization that provides free or low-cost services to seniors who have chosen to live in their own homes."
" Beacon Hill Village now boasts 400 members and the concept has spread to other communities across the country. There are about 100 'villages' to date, with another 200 in development, according to the national organization [Village to Village Network] that helps establish these networks. Each one is formed and governed locally, tailored to the specific needs of that community. "

* Senior Wellness classes
* Senior educational and learning seminars
* Senior transportation around town
* Help for seniors with household repairs and tasks such as light cleaning
* Help for seniors with bill paying
* Help for seniors with meals and groceries
* Senior social activities and cultural events
* Senior travel excursions
The program is part of a growing movement gaining support for seniors aging in place and creating NORC's Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities.
The Beacon Hill Village is a model program for other communities in the country. The program has created of a movement for senior housing villages around the country through the
Village to Village Network The program has influenced international communities to create senior housing villages in other parts of the world.
